ESIA MISSION

The European Semiconductor Industry Association represents and promotes the interests of the European-based semiconductor industry and advocates for its international competitiveness. The industry provides the key enabling technology solutions for society in the fields of energy efficiency, mobility, health care, security and across the ICT sector including the realisation of the smart grid and more efficient lighting. The industry was ranked as the most R&D intensive sector by the European Commission in 2011. This sector supports around 110,000 jobs directly and up to 500,000 jobs in Europe, operating in a worldwide market valued at over $ 299 billion (over € 215 billion) in 2011.

    • Semiconductors -or microchips- provide the enabling technology for modern daily life

Everyone reading these words has probably benefited from the service of a broad range of semiconductors within the last hour. Whether you have used a pc, a mobile phone or your digital camera, watched TV, used any form of transportation, listened to your mp3 or played a video game - you can be sure that semiconductors have been involved.

ESIA at a glance

  • is one of the industry associations under the EECA umbrella;
  • is industry driven;
  • has a strong European profile;
  • represents European semiconductor interests on a national, European
    and global scale;
  • facilitates dialogue and cooperation with stakeholders at all levels;
  • focuses on dedicated working groups;
  • facilitates industry networking;
  • provides technical and communication expertise, and
  • hosts major international industry events.

Membership

ESIA represents the semiconductor manufacturing companies, both large and small, operating in Europe - either directly or through the membership of national associations. Industry needs are rapidly and effectively addressed through direct company involvement, while the active participation of national associations also mirrors the structure and importance of EU Member States. Through this mixed membership model the semiconductor industry speaks with one voice in Europe.
"In a globalized world, the ability to compete transcends
individual companies and requires joint actions conducted
on national and even continental scales. For this
reason, ESIA plays a vital role in helping to establish the
comparatively level playing field that is necessary to allow
microelectronics industries in Europe to continue to
serve the interests of their customers and stakeholders."
